The Coil Is Working!

The wait is over, project exodus is complete!

Its official guys, the coil is working! After tweaking everything and taking out the current shunts in the charging choke, the coil is producing 1 meter output sparks. At the moment it is only drawing about 6 amps and the coil was designed for 10 which means that by the time tuning and modifications are done we hope to double are output. Here are some pictures, we tested it with and without a breakout point:

As you can see we are getting 1 meter arcs from the coil. We have also tried it in its bipolar setup and that works too, also creating 1 meter arcs but as it goes between 2 coils it is brighter. Unfortunately we do not have many pictures of that yet.

We took the coil to our local school for an event that was happening there, it drew quite a crowd. We also got the opportunity to use a DSLR camera to get some long exposure shots of the coil. Unfortunately though, the coil was under performing that night.

As promised, we have successfully completed what we set out to do: to make a DC resonant charging bipolar tesla coil. However, our work is not done yet. We plan to double our output length to 2 meters by improving and upgrading parts and components of the coil. We still have quite a way before we can say the coil is finished, we will constantly update this blog with images and information as we work on it.
